Kasapa Telecom Limited is assuring its customers of a smooth transition as the mobile operator migrates from its analogue cellular technology to a digital platform by September.
The mobile telecoms operator has confirmed a story by JOY Business Report that it will deploy Code-Division Multiple Access or CDMA digital technology to give, as it puts it, efficiency nobody can match.
Experts say the CDMA technology provides better capacity for voice and data communications than other commercial mobile technologies.
It also allows more subscribers to connect at any given time, and it is the common platform on which 3G technologies are built Kasapa says it has signed a contract with China’s ZTE Corporation to supply build and manage the digital network and expects the first shipment of network equipment to arrive in Ghana this week.
Following which it will launch its new service in Accra Tema and Kumasi in three months and then proceed with a program to cover the entire country.
The move is expected to boost the competitive edge of the service provider by giving more value for its customers.
The phone company has stayed in the highly competitive sector with relatively cheaper rates helping to increase its subscriber base to over 60 thousand presently - a business plan which officials say will not change.
It will also enable the company to roll out a number of exiting new services including SMS text messaging.
