The founder of the ruling National democratic Congress, Jerry John Rawlings, has once again jabbed his party in an indirect manner, that will be subjected to various interpretations by social commentators.
To the former President, those “greedy bastards” in connivance with the “babies with sharp teeth” have now developed into “old evil dwarfs”, who are apparently wreaking havoc on the nation’s progress.
Addressing NDC supporters yesterday at the party’s campaign launch at the Ho Jubilee Park, Mr Rawlings urged President John Dramani Mahama to be wary of the “evil dwarfs” in his government.
He appealed to Ghanaians to pray for the president for God to grant his the needed courage to put his feet down to cleanse his administration of the evil dwarfs, who obviously represent bad omen for the government and the nation as a whole.
“Ladies and gentlemen, comrades, my fellow countrymen and women, your President, the President needs help and I pray to God to give him strength and courage to put his foot down and do what he needs to do. I wish him well,” Mr Rawlings stated.
He continued: “There is nothing more oppressive than when a political leader refuses to see the actions of negative elements around him, but there is nothing more rewarding than when a political leader begins to see the negative actions of these people.”
With this challenge from former President Rawlings, the onus now lies with President John Mahama to fish out the “greedy bastards”,“babies with sharp teeth” and the “old evil dwarfs” who have certainly become serious threats to the nation’s development.
The less than four minutes speech delivered by the former President yesterday left members of the NDC still wondering about their founder’s commitment to their 2012 electioneering campaign.
NDC members had interpreted a previous remark their founder had made during an interaction with the Volta Regional House of Chiefsto mean an endorsement of the candidature of President John Mahama. But it later turned out that was not the case.
At the party’s special delegates’ congress in Kumasi to endorse President Mahama as the presidential candidate, Mr Rawlings sought to give some directives to be carried out if he was to join the party’s campaign.
Among them was the charge to President Mahama to restore integrity into the NDC and his government.
Former President Rawlings also declared some members of his party as “babies with sharp” who needed to be dealt with by President Mahama.
"Mr. President, fellow Ghanaians, it is said that we should not throw out the baby with the bath water, but what do we do when some of the babies in the tub are babies with teeth, biting and spewing invectives? Should they not be lowered out with the dirty water so we can concentrate on the good ones? After all one bad nut is all it takes to spoil the taste in your mouth,” former President Rawlings said.
