Jean Pierre Garnier, Chief Executive of global pharmaceutical giant, Glaxo SmithKline is in the country for a day’s official visit. Mr. Ganier is expected to meet clients of GlaxoSmithKline in Ghana and also meet the company’s Ghanaian representatives to review the operations in Ghana.

Much later in the day, Mr. Garnier is expected to meet Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama at the Castle, after which, he would tour a few health facilities in the country.

Jean Pierre Garnier assumed his role as Chief Executive of Glaxo in 2001 with the merger of Smithkline Beecham and Glaxo Wellcome. He joined SmithKline Beecham in 1990 as President of its pharmaceutical business in North America and served as Chairman, Pharmaceuticals from 1994 till 1995 when he was appointed Chief Operating Officer. He was elected to the company’s Board of Directors in 1992.

He holds a PHD in Pharmacology and an MS in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Louis Pasteur in France. As a Fulbright Scholar, he earned an MBA at Stanford University in 1974.
