Areeba extends lifeline to lesser disciplines 8/26/2005
Ghana’s largest cellular phone network, Areeba Ghana, has signed a long-term sponsorship deal worth 1.350 billion cedis with three sporting disciplines and a Division One league club.

The beneficiaries of the deal, which was finalized in Accra are the Ghana Tennis Association, Ghana Hockey Association, Handball Association of Ghana and division one-league club Nania FC.

The tennis association received 500 million cedis of the total sum while hockey and netball picked up 300 million cedis each.

Nania FC’s share of the money is 250 million cedis.

Under the new partnership Areeba wields full branding rights as title sponsor for major tournaments organized by these disciplines; apparels of national teams will also be branded and Areeba will enjoy non-voting membership status on the various executive committees of the associations.

After the launch of the multi disciplinary sponsorship deal, Ahmad Farroukh, managing director of Areeba Ghana told Joy Sports the communication giants believe in enabling the supposed lesser-known sports to realize their full potential.

The beneficiaries of the sponsorship package described Areeba’s gesture as a tremendous lifeline to ease their financial burdens.
